Throwback: March 23, 2024

Back to the Night That Us Rocked Dark & Deep

Last year's Wrath of the Selkie 2024 was pure spooky magic—a night of art and music synthesized to stories of hope, despair, and, above all, the Mighty Sea. With dynamic performances, theatrical drama, and unforgettable sets, the event solidified itself as an essential gathering in our local spooky-rock scene.

Now, as anticipation builds for this Saturday's return at the iconic Rockwell Theater in Somerville, MA, let's revisit some powerful moments captured at last year’s show.

Haunting Headliner:

Thou Merciless Graves

Boston’s own Thou Merciless Graves enthralled the audience with their gothic-folk style, seamlessly blending eerie maritime storytelling, haunting vocals, and synth-driven melodies. Their performance transformed the theater into an atmospheric journey reminiscent of deep, mysterious depths, creating a sonic landscape as deep and mysterious as the ocean itself.

Last year, their performance featured eerie storytelling, dramatic lighting, and immersive stage art, including mythical creatures and surreal visuals.

Capturing the Spirit of the Scene:

Behind-the-Lens Energy

Live music photography is about feeling the rhythm and nailing split-second shots. My signature style—deep monochrome scenes splashed with selective, vibrant color—captures those raw moments of passion and intensity unique to Boston’s indie performances. The monochrome style heightens the intensity of the performances, while selective use of color accents brings attention to dramatic and expressive moments, as beautifully demonstrated by Squallie’s lead (above image). From fierce duets to mysterious masked spectators, each shot tells a story of genuine artistic expression.
